In this paper, a new method for designing gro unding grids by means o f e vo lution-ary computation tec hnique s is propo sed. T he aim be ing pursued is to minimize the cost o f the grounding syste m while meeting the safe ty restricti o ns required by the standard regulatio ns. T he utilizatio n o f evolutio nary computation (in partic ular, ge netic algorithms and e vo lutio n strategie s) allo ws us to build unequally spaced netwo rks that, as is we ll-kno wn, produce a more uniform surface po tential distribution than equally spaced networks.
